Founded in 1946 by Hans Wilsdorf, the visionary behind Rolex, Montres Tudor SA was established to offer timepieces with Rolex’s renowned quality and craftsmanship at a more accessible price point. Among its most celebrated creations is the Tudor Submariner, introduced in the 1950/60s as Tudor’s interpretation of the iconic Rolex dive watch.
The example presented here, a reference 7928 from 1963, features the highly sought-after “chapter ring” gilt dial, housed within a “pointed crown guard” (PCG) case—a configuration prized by collectors for its rarity and vintage charm.
This particular Submariner remains in excellent vintage condition, showing crisp and well-defined case bevels that suggest it has seen any polishing. The dial retains its deep, glossy finish paired with excellent patina hour plots with matching hands, including its original lollipop second hand. The original tritium lume on both the dial and hands has aged to a beautiful warm yellow hue, enhancing its vintage appeal. Completing the look is the period-correct “Skinny 40” bezel insert, which remains in attractive condition with light wear consistent with age and gentle use—a truly exceptional example of a classic Tudor diver.
